No. Most people who attend a trial class are complete beginners. The session is structured to introduce fundamental movements and concepts in a safe, controlled environment. No prior martial arts or combat sports experience is required.
Yes. Jiu Jitsu is scalable to all fitness levels. You will work at your own pace, take breaks when needed, and improve naturally over time. Many members start specifically to improve fitness, strength, and conditioning.
A typical BJJ class starts with a short warmup. This consists of some movement drills to build some athleticism and improve general mobility. We then move on to some sport specific drills, some are done alone and some with a partner. These will introduce you to the basic movements of the sport. We then move on to the technical part of the class. The coach will demonstrate some techniques and you'll be partnered with another student to work through the moves. Coach will be on hand to help you through the process and answer any questions you have. Next up is some live positional sparring. Newcomers aren't expected to join in on their first class although you are welcome to if you feel comfortable! We then finish with a short Q&A whilst we stretch off.
After your trial, a coach will briefly talk you through membership options and recommended training frequency based on your goals. There is no pressure to sign up on the day.
